Leipzig, East Germany (AP) The defending Soviet champion team swept Monaco 4-0 in the first-round match Monday of the 14th Chess Olympics here.
Other clean victories were registered by Cuba over Lebanon, Argentina over Italy, and Norway over France.
The shortest game—84 minutes—was that of America's Robert Fischer against Romania's Ghitescu—Fischer won in 14 moves.
