U.S. Beats W. Germany in Close Chess Match

Leipzig—The American team won another close match in the Chess Olympics here defeating West Germany by 2½ to 1½. Once again the Russians gained by overcoming East Germany 3-1. They now have the almost insurmountable margin of 4 points with two matches remaining.
England Ties
Byrne won for the United States against Dr. Lehmann when the latter missed a tactical point losing an important pawn. Other games, Fischer versus Unzicker, Lombardy versus Darga and Bisguier versus Bialas, were drawn in less than 25 moves.
Tal beat Malcih and Petrosian beat Golz for the Russians, both taking two K sessions. Smyslov versus Fuchs and Kochnoi versus Dittmann had a draw.
Czechoslovakia defeated Hungary 2½ to 1½ while England tied 2-2 with Bulgaria. With one game unfinished Yugoslavia beat Rumania 2½ to 1½. Argentina drew three games with Holland.
