Challenger Maintains Lead in World Chess
The fifteenth game of the world chess championship match in Moscow between Mikhail Botvinnik of Russia, the champion, and Mikhail Tal of Latvia ended in a draw Friday.
Tal proposed the draw although he had appeared to hold a slight advantage when the game was adjourned after 41 moves the day before.
The outcome left the challenger ahead, 8½ to 6½, in the 24-game series. It was the fourth game in a row to end in a draw. Tal has won four games in the match and Botvinnik two.
In the international tournament at Mar del Plata, Argentina, there was an exceptionally close struggle. The contenders were Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union and Bobby Fischer, of Brooklyn, the United States champion.
They have been well matched and never more than a point apart in the standing.
